The potential impact of closing Moray’s two RAF bases is to be discussed at a meeting by local business leaders and politicians.

The future of RAF Kinloss and RAF Lossiemouth are uncertain as the coalition government carries out its defence spending review.

Representatives of local major businesses Baxters soup and Walkers shortbread will be among those to meet with the council leaders, local MP Angus Robertson and MSP Richard Lochhead on Friday afternoon.

A recent study found RAF Lossiemouth and RAF Kinloss account for 16% of full-time employment in Moray, with staff and their families making up around 7% of the total population.

Development agency Highlandsand Islands Enterprise (HIE) put their estimated contribution to the local economy at £158m.

Defence Secretary Liam Fox will make an announcement on the defence spending review in the last week of October.
