Parts of Dundee's Ninewells Hospital were evacuated on Thursday after a fire broke out in the building.

The blaze started in a nurses' changing room on level five in the admin block of the hospital.

Hundreds of workers were evacuated from the building, which was cleared between level five and level 10.

It is understood that the hospital's concourse area was also closed for a short time - with some patients evacuated from the daycare and radiology departments.

Firefighters from Tayside Fire and Rescue are on the scene of the blaze.

Medical lecturer Natalie Lafferty wrote on Twitter: "We can now see patients on trolleys who've been evacuated from Ninewells.

"We're not sure if theatres have been evacuated but patients out of the hospital too."

Ninewells Hospital is a teaching hospital on the western edge of Dundee, Scotland. It is administered by NHS Tayside.

Whats the betting it was caused by a member of staff having a ciggie? Now they're coming done harder on smokers there it wouldnt surprise me if some people are having a secret puff indoors.

Thats the reason that people think the Wellgate was evacuated last week (happened just as my brother parked the car of all times)
