Police have issued a description of the man believed to have shot a 41-year-old man in Bridgeton on the night of Tuesday September 7.
The attacker is white, aged about 40, 5 ft 8 in height, and with short blond hair. He was unshaven at the time of the attack and was wearing a dark coloured tracksuit with the hood up.
The shooting took place at around 8.05 in the evening. Police say that the victim – who was local to the area - was walking along Main Street near to Dale Path when the assailant got out of a black car and shot him.
A passer-by came to help and emergency services rushed to the scene. The injured man was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where staff say his condition is serious but stable. He is being treated for injuries to his arm and upper body.
Detective Inspector Graham Cordner of London Road CID is appealing for information. He said: "From our enquiries so far, we know that this was not a random attack and the man was the intended victim, however, it is totally unacceptable that a man is shot in the middle of the street and in daylight. It is a residential area around here with hundreds of flats. There could have been children running about and caught up in this incident - it is just not on.
"As I said, there are lots of homes here and undoubtedly someone will have heard a gun firing. We just cannot have this happen. We need members of the public to come forward.
“There is a goldmine of information out there and local people hold the key to us catching the person responsible."
Officers are carrying out door to door enquiries and checking CCTV in the area. Additional hi-visibility officers have also been assigned to the area and local people are encouraged to approach the officers or the local police office with any concerns they may have.
Police have set up an incident room at London Road Police Office and members of the public can call officers direct on 0141 532 4636. Alternately, CRIMESTOPPERS can be contacted on 0800 555 111. Calls will be treated in confidence.
