Annie Turnbull: Believed to be the oldest person in Britain
The oldest person in Britain has died in a nursing home in Leith aged 111.
Annie Turnbull, who was born in 1898, recently said the secret of living so long was "keeping calm". She died at Victoria Manor care home last Friday - only 19 days before her 112th birthday.
The pensioner was born in Haywood in Lanarkshire and grew up in Stoneyburn in West Lothian. After leaving school aged 14 she moved to Edinburgh where she worked as a housekeeper.
She moved to her care home in 2008 where she attributed her longevity to keeping calm, hard work and "a daily glass of sherry".
Mrs Turnbull is survived by two daughters, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
She became the oldest person in the UK after the death of Eunice Bowman on July 16 2010. Mrs Turnbull had been the oldest person in Scotland since the death of Alexina Calvert on September 19 2008.
