Police confirmed the name of the man who was killed on the B9091 between Croy and Clephanton on Monday.
25-year-old Martyn MacLeod a student from Culloden, Inverness, was killed after his car burst into flames near Inverness Airport, just before 5pm.
The alarm was raised by residents who heard a crash and then witnessed a ball of fire.
Firefighters were the first on the scene and extinguished the blaze. However, Mr MacLeod had been unable to escape.
