An illegal immigrant has been jailed for 15 months for his part in a counterfeit credit card scam.
Jie Zhang, 26, will be deported back to China when he is released after he pleaded guilty at Selkirk Sheriff Court to a charge of being found in possession of an electronic card reader and credit vouchers to the value of £300 when his car was stopped on the A697 near Greenlaw, Berwickshire.
Along with Chun Wing Wu, 23, they had travelled from their Newcastle base to attempt the frauds in the east of Scotland.
Wu tried to obtain a total of £660 from the Lothian and Borders Co-op stores in Coldstream, Berwickshire, and Gifford, East Lothian on March 10.
The 23-year-old eventually gained £300 from a garage in Prestonpans, East Lothian, later the same day.
Wu had already been jailed for 15 months and Sheriff Kevin Drummond said he could not distinguish between the two and imposed the same sentence on Zhang.
The jail term was back-dated to March 29, when he was first taken into custody.
Sheriff Drummond has recommended to the Home Secretary that both men are deported on the completion of their sentences.
