Detectives have revealed there were signs of a disturbance in the Glasgow home of a man who died after a "violent attack".
Strathclyde Police discovered the body of John Brennan, 35, in his Shettleston flat just after midday on Thursday.
Detective Inspector Graham Cordner of Shettleston CID said: "At this time we do not know exactly when Mr Brennan died but suffice to say, it was as a result of a violent attack. There were signs of a disturbance in the house so it is possible that people heard something that may pinpoint when this attack took place."
Mr Brennan lived alone in the flat, on Cockenzie Street.
Officers said he was well known in the area and was a regular at the Palaceum Bar in nearby Edrom Street.
Mr Cordner added: "We are keen to trace his movements prior to September 2, so that we can find out where he was, who he was with and what happened. Officers have been carrying out detailed forensic examinations at the property and have been speaking to local residents and checking available CCTV from in and around the area.
"As I said, Mr Brennan died as a result of a sustained attack and we are determined to catch whoever did this.
"Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, can be passed to officers."
Police have set up an incident caravan in Cockenzie Street, and asked anyone with information to call in and speak to officers. They can also be contacted on 0141 532 4814 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
