A motorcyclist who crashed into a lamppost on Thursday night has died.

A 26-year-old man has died following a smash in Aberdeen on Thursday.

At around 11.55pm, emergency services attended a one vehicle crash on the westbound carriageway of Auchmill Road.

The 26-year-old male rider, who was on a green kawasaki motorcycle, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary straight away.

Grampian Police have confirmed he died later of his injuries. The man will not be named until next of kin have been informed.

Collision investigators carried out a detailed examination of the scene and the westbound carriageway was closed for around seven hours with local diversions in place.
