Rangers riot: CCTV footage of incident
Twelve football hooligans involved in rioting after the Uefa Cup Final will be sentenced on Friday.
They were arrested after a "celebration of football" descended into mayhem as Glasgow club Rangers played in the prestigious final at the City of Manchester Stadium in May 2008.
Up to 125,000 fans of the Scottish club, most without tickets, drank pubs and supermarkets dry as they descended on the city centre, Manchester Crown Court heard.
But trouble erupted after a giant screen in Piccadilly Gardens in the city centre failed shortly before Rangers were about to take the field against Zenit St Petersburg in a game they lost 2-0.
Hundreds of drink-fuelled Rangers fans went on the rampage for hours, fighting with police and among themselves, hurling bottles at officers trying to restore order and destroying property, the court heard.
The 12 men in the dock face charges of either violent disorder or assault on police officers.
The two-day sentencing hearing began on Thursday. The group will now be sentenced later on Friday.
