Police searching for the missing woman Betty Brown are investigating a possible sighting in Edinburgh last week.
CCTV images taken from a camera at Sainsbury's in the Stockbridge area of the capital show a woman in a red jacket walking past the store on Tuesday August 24.
The images were obtained after a member of the public reported seeing a woman answering Betty's description in the area on that day.
Betty Brown was last seen on CCTV getting off a bus on the city’s Nicolson Street on Friday, May 28. She has not been in contact with her friends and family since and police say her bank account has remained unused. She has also missed a number of family engagements and officers say they are growing increasingly concerned for her safety.
The witness on Tuesday saw the woman walking past the Sainsbury's store in Deanhaugh Street at 1pm, making her way into Raeburn Place, where she stopped to look in the window of an estate agent. She then turned and walked back in the direction she came, past Sainsbury's, before being lost to sight.
Police are now anxious for any information regarding the woman's identity, and are appealing for help in tracing her.
A police spokesman said: "These images, taken from CCTV, show a woman wearing a distinctive red jacket who bears a resemblance to Betty, and we are keen to trace this woman in order to satisfy ourselves as to her identity.
"Our inquiries into Betty's disappearance continue, and we remain keen for any new information that can help us establish her current whereabouts.
"She was last seen getting off a number 3 LRT bus in Nicolson Street at 11.55am on Friday, May 28, and from there we know that she crossed the street and visited the cash machine at the Royal Bank of Scotland on Nicolson Street."
"The trail ends there, and we are appealing for anyone who can help us establish her movements after this point to get in touch."
Elizabeth, known to her friends as Betty, is described as around five feet seven inches tall, with fair hair and glasses. When she was seen on May 28, she was wearing a black jacket over an open necked blouse, blue jeans and black shoes, and was carrying two large Aldi carrier bags.
