Drivers: Scots worst for flirting on the road
Many motorists are not watching the road because they are too busy flirting with other drivers, with Scots the worst offenders, according to a survey.
Winking, hooting and blowing kisses appear common occurrences among road users, the poll by the Autoglass company found.
As many as 58% of the 3,000 motorists polled admitted to taking their eyes off the road when they spot a desirable driver.
Some of the less-subtle approaches include mooning, holding up signs and even leaping out of a car to get into another person's vehicle.
The poll found that the flirtiest drivers were in Scotland with 30% having eyed up other motorists.
Drivers from East Anglia and south-east England also find attractive road users a distraction when at the wheel. As many as 27% of 18 to 24-year-olds eye up other motorists, while only 10% of over-55s do so.
Blowing kisses
More than two in five drivers have winked back when given the eye, while 20% have blown kisses in return and 11% have been happy to give their telephone number to an admirer.
Matt Mycock, Autoglass managing director, said: "We have become a nation of drivers and we spend more time behind the wheel and less time socially interacting, so it's perhaps no surprise that motorists are flirting to entertain themselves while stuck in traffic or trying to set up a date.
"We're urging motorists to keep their eyes on the road and if they do encounter other drivers trying to grab their attention then to just ignore it."
