Torrential rain has battered parts of Scotland causing localised flooding and hazardous driving conditions.
North-east Fife was particularly badly affected with around 30 homes flooded and some drivers having to be rescued from their vehicles.
In Stonehaven sandbags have been distributed to residents amid fears that the River Carron could burst its banks.
An Aberdeenshire Council spokesman said: "Levels in the River Carron peaked earlier this afternoon and are now dropping. However, the decision has been taken to keep the barriers in place tonight as a precaution.
More than an inch and a half of rain (41mm) pounded the county overnight on Thursday, well over half the average for the entire month of October.
Dougie Potter, Fife Council's team leader for emergency planning, said: "Teams have been working through the night dealing with flooding and helping with preventative work including delivering sandbags.
"Extra contact centre staff were also brought into deal with a higher volume of calls experienced overnight from predominantly North East Fife."
In Pitscottie near Cupar the Red Cross was called in to help evacuate residents from their homes. Some homes had partially collapsed due to the amount of water.
In one incident late on Thursday night fire crews rescued a woman and her dog from her car after it got stuck in 3ft of floodwater near Colinsburgh in Fife. Just a few miles away occupants also had to be rescued from a car which was submerged in flood water close to Shell Bay caravan park in Elie.
A spokeswoman for Fife Fire and Rescue Service said they had been called out to assist at the Lomond Centre in Glenrothes which was under around 3ft of water. She added they were also assisting at the village of Ceres, close to St Andrews, where heavy flooding have been reported.
STV weather forecaster Jo Farrow predicted that the weather would stay wet through to the weekend. She said: "After torrential downpours to start Friday in Tayside the band of very heavy rain is clearing away northwards through Angus. This will leave a cloudy damp day across Tayside and a similar picture for the weekend."
The A92 was closed between Dundee and Arbroath due to flooding on Friday morning and the A937 Laurencekirk- to Montrose road was closed at Marykirk.
Motorists were also warned to expect delays on the A9 at Luncarty in Perth and Kinross due to an incident involving an overturned caravan on the carriageway.
Later on Friday at around 4.50pm, a landslip occurred on the A9 close to the Slochd Summit in the Highlands, forcing the closure of one lane southbound.
Forecasters predicted almost half of October’s average rain to would fall on Thursday night and throughout Friday. There were 36 Sepa flood warnings and 11 further flood alerts in place across the country, covering areas from the Borders to Aberdeenshire.
Richard Brown, head of hydrology for the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa), said: "A band of rain is moving northwards more slowly than expected and river levels in many areas are continuing to rise. There is likely to be ongoing and increasing disruption from surface water, smaller watercourses and flooding of agricultural land for many areas throughout the day. The north east and the north Highlands will be impacted by the rain later today and overnight, and while conditions in the south east should improve later on Friday, disruption may be expected further north as water levels continue to rise.
"A general improvement across all areas is forecast to occur during Saturday. Sepa will continue to monitor the situation and update its advice accordingly. We would encourage people in the areas potentially at risk to remain vigilant and be mindful of the conditions in their locality and when travelling."
