Tracy Brannan: Scots woman stabbed to death in US
The stepson of a Scottish woman who was stabbed to death in America has appeared in court charged with second degree murder.
Tracy Brannan, 33, originally from Glasgow, was attacked at the home she shared with her husband Harold, 60, who was also injured.
The couple married in May after Mrs Brannan, born Tracy Wyatt, moved to the US to start a new life. The pair were living in Omaha, Nebraska.
Her stepson David Brannan, 21, is alleged to have attacked her and then stabbed himself. He was taken to hospital and was arrested after he was released following treatment.
The stepson appeared at a court room at the Douglas County Correctional Centre today, prosecutors said.
He is charged with second degree murder, second degree felony assault and two counts of use of a weapon to commit a felony, a spokesman for the Omaha Police Department said.
Shelly Stratman, a deputy county attorney for Douglas County, said: "David Brannan went in front of the judge at 9am. His bond is set at one million dollars (£635,000) and his preliminary hearing is set for August 13."
Police were called to the scene in South 122nd Avenue at 4.40am on July 24 and found three people with various stab and cutting injuries. All three were taken to Nebraska Medical Centre.
Mr Brannan needed hospital treatment for his injuries but was later released, while his son remained in hospital.
Before moving to the US, Mrs Brannan worked for Loch Fyne Oysters near Inveraray in Argyll for 15 years.
