A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of Kevin 'Gerbil' Carroll, who was shot in the car park of the branch of Asda in the Robroyston area of Glasgow.
Twenty-nine-year old Mr Carroll, who was known as a gangland figure, died on January 13 2010. He was killed while sitting in the back of an Audi car outside the shop.
Relatives of Mr Carroll have been made aware of the new development in the case and a report is to be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Ross Monaghan, 28, is in police custody and is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday.
A cache of firearms thought to have been used in the shooting was recovered by police behind a library in Coatbridge on January 28. A car, which had been stolen in Rutherglen months before, was found burned out on a country road in North Lanarkshire.
A Crown Office statement said: "We can confirm the procurator fiscal has received a report concerning two males aged 28 and 30, in connection with an incident in Glasgow on January 13, 2010. The procurator fiscal is aware that a 28-year-old man is in custody and is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday."
