Murder victim: Paul John Woods died from head injuries

A man who died after he was found with head injuries near a pub in Glasgow has been identified by police.

Paul John Woods was found unconscious in Maryhill Road, opposite the Maryhill Tavern, at 10pm on Wednesday. He later died at the Southern General Hospital.

Police have launched a murder inquiry following the death of the 29-year-old, who was from the Maryhill area.

Detective Inspector John Kennedy, of Maryhill Police Office, said: "Our investigation is still at an early stage to establish the full circumstances of how this man came about his injuries.

"Extensive police enquiries are ongoing in the local area and officers are currently carrying out door to door enquires and studying CCTV footage in an effort to glean further information on this crime.

"I would urge anyone who was in the area of Maryhill Road opposite the Maryhill Tavern around 10pm on Wednesday night, or anyone with information regarding this murder to come forward to police.

"An incident room has been set up at Maryhill Police Office and the telephone number is 0141 532 3736. Alternatively, Crimestoopers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained."
