Three men are on the run from police after an attempted robbery in Dumfries.
Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary sealed off the town's Terregles Road following a large-scale search on Monday.
The men, who are believed to have forced their way into a flat in Kirkpatrick Court at around 4am on Monday, may be hiding in a property in the street.
The assailants, who were dressed in dark clothes and hooded tops, threatened the occupants of the flat and demanded money. It is thought a firearm may have been used in the robbery.
A spokesman for the force said: "Officers have obtained information that the males responsible may be in the Terregles Road area and are currently involved in an operation to trace them.
"Police are keen to stress that there is no threat to the public and enquiries are ongoing at this time."
