A man has died in a house fire in Troon.

The blaze, which broke out at 12.15am on Sunday, was on the ground floor of a two-storey building in Bentinck Drive.

Following reports that there may have still been people in the house, Troon Community fire station called in further support to tackle the fire before searching the building.

Group commander Owen Hanratty said: "The initial incident commander quickly requested additional resources to assist in extinguishing the fire, prevent it spreading and to carry out a systematic search of the building.

"This additional support was provided by fire appliances from Ayr and Dreghorn Community fire stations.

"Eight firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were committed into the building and one team quickly found and removed one male adult who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene."

Details of the deceased man are yet to be released and a joint investigation is being conducted by Strathclyde Fire and Rescue and Strathclyde Police.
