Hundreds of shoppers have flocked to a store opening in Cupar - as a shop rising from the ashes of Woolworths opened its doors.
The new Alworths branch - the brainchild of former Woolies head of store and concession development, Andy Latham - is the first in Scotland.
Mr Latham now has eight shops across the UK - with a ninth set to open in Forfar later this week.
There are plans to open a further eight stores in Scotland in the future.
While it has a new name - the Cupar Alworths store is in the former Woolworths building, employs many of its former staff and retains a similar product range as the former High Street favourite, which went bust in January 2009.
The store stocks a mix of branded toys, sweets, homeware, stationery, entertainment products, seasonal goods and garden items.
The new stores will offer a large selection of pic 'n' mix along with party accessories, cards and wrap.
The Cupar team will be headed up by manager Kate Fitzpatrick, herself a former Woolworths store manager, having worked for the company for over 30 years.
She said: "I was overjoyed to receive the call from Alworths and I didn't hesitate in accepting the job. I'm really excited to take on the challenge of managing the new alworths store and working with lots of familiar faces to establish alworths in the local community."
Mr Latham added: "We're delighted to be launching alworths in Scotland and we hope the stores will be well received by the local communities in Cupar and Forfar. We strongly believe that there is still a desire for traditional high street shopping and our aim is to offer customers the products that they have been missing on their local high streets.
"It's also very encouraging for us to be able to employ many of our fellow ex-Woolies colleagues and we hope our customers will enjoy seeing a few familiar faces in the stores."
