Standing MP Malcolm Bruce has been re-elected as MP for Gordon, a position he has held since 1983, when the constituency of Gordon was created. This comes as little surprise, as the seat has been held by the Liberal Democrats since it was created.
Mr Bruce is married with five children. He was born in Birkenhead, and attended Wrekin College in England. He went on to study at Queen’s College, now the Univeristy of Dundee, at the University of St Andrews, where he earned a degree in economics and political science, and Strathclyde University, where he gained a degree in marketing.
Mr Bruce has worked as a journalist on the Liverpool Daily Post and as a research and information officer for the North East Scotland Development Agency, among other posts.
He was the leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats for four years. He has held numerous posts at Westminster, including Liberal Democrat spokesman for the Exchequer. He has also sat on the Scottish Affairs Select Committee, the Trade and Industry Select Committee, the Committee for Standards and Privileges and the Treasury Select Committee.
He was made a Privy Councillor in 2006. He was also Chairman of the International Development Committee.
