Liberal Democrats hold Gordon

Incumbent MP Malcolm Bruce has been re-elected as MP for Gordon, a position he has held since 1983, when the constituency of Gordon was created.

This comes as little surprise, as the seat has been held by the Liberal Democrats since it was created, although his share of the vote was down by almost 9%. The turnout was 48,775 – up 4.65% on 2005. The SNP had a strong swing of 7.61% towards them but not enough to threaten Mr Bruce.

Mr Bruce thanked the electorate of Gordon in his speech, and vowed to press for a fairer share of funding for the north-east of Scotland.

He said: "I have also fought for the people of Gordon and I will continue to do so."

IN DETAIL

A commuter belt constituency, it was the fastest growing seat in the 1980s as Aberdeen’s oil boom attracted workers to the city. This seat covers the towns of Ellon, Inverurie, Huntly and the Bridge of Don and Dyce areas.
