Standing MP Willie Bain has held the Glasgow North East seat, cementing Labour’s hold on the constituency. It is traditionally a Labour seat.
On the stage after his result was announced, Mr Bain said: "I want to pay tribute to my amazing campaign team. I'm also very proud of the people of Glasgow North East for putting their confidence in Labour and me with this resounding majority.
"I promise to serve every one of my constituents whether they voted for me, for someone else, or not at all."
IN DETAIL
Mr Bain said the campaign was fought on the issues of jobs, public services and growth which helped generate a higher turnout than the last General Election.
In her speech on stage, Ms McKechin said: "This is a good night for Glasgow. It's going to be a good night for Scotland.
"I can see that whatever happens and the hard challenges that we face, the Labour party will fight hard for Glasgow, fight hard for Scotland and fight hard to make sure that people are not left behind.
"To make sure that we have fairness in our society and to make sure that we campaign continuously for social justice."
Solidarity candidate Tommy Sheridan, who received 931 votes in Glasgow South West and came fifth, said: "The one consensus that we should have here tonight is that no matter who forms the government, the fightback begins tomorrow.
"Because whether it's a Tory butcher knife or a New Labour butcher knife, they are going to take that butcher knife to public services and public sector workers' conditions."
Ian Davidson won Glasgow South West for the Labour Party with 19,863 votes.
Mr Bain holds a majority of 15,942 votes, or 54.2%. This is up almost 19% from the 2005 General Election majority.
29,409 votes were cast, a turnout of almost 50%. This is up 3.4% from 2005.
The SNP polled in second place.
Created in 2005, Glasgow North East includes most of the former Glasgow Springburn and a slice of the former Glasgow Maryhill constituency.
