Dundee biomass plant consultation to be held

A two-day public consultation on a proposed biomass plant at Dundee port is to be held.

Forth Energy will hold the consultation on May 20 and 21 in the city's Overgate Centre where they will outline their proposal.

A technical pre application briefing for Dundee councillors into the proposed plant has been rearranged until after the event public consultation.

A city council spokesman said: "The briefing for elected members has been postponed until after the public have had the opportunity to hear first hand from Forth Energy about their plans on the biomass plant.

"Elected members will get exactly the same information about the biomass plant as the general public."

The proposal for the biomass plant will be decided upon by Scottish Ministers and not the city council.

This is because any energy generation scheme over 50 megawatts has to be decided on at national level. Forth Energy proposals for biomass plants at Leith, Grangemouth and Rosyth will be decided upon in the same manner.

The council spokesman added: "The city council is a statutory consultee but not a decision maker in this process.

"However the city council will determine any planning application that comes forward for the two wind turbines also proposed at the port. Any decision on a future briefing on the turbines will be taken at a later stage as this proposal progresses."
