An island’s pantomime of Snow White – ironically cancelled because of the big freeze – is to get under way on Skye three months after the festive period.
The curtain will finally go up on the Portree Community Pantomime Group production on Wednesday after wintry conditions put paid to its original run.
Organiser Anne Brandy said the performance was originally due to begin in mid-January.
She said: “We’ve never had it as late as this before. The weather was dreadful – we had cars skidding off the road. People couldn’t get into Portree or out of their roads because of the snow so they were stranded really.
“We had four people turn up to one rehearsal – and that’s out of a cast of 90!”
The show will play out six times during a four night stint at the Aros Centre in Portree.
Despite the late showing, Ms Brandy insists the community and cast are still eagerly anticipating the production.
She said: “Oh yes, they’re raring to go. There’s about 90 kids performing, so all their mums dads and friends, aunties and uncles want to come and see them, so I’m sure it’ll be busy.
“We normally start planning for the panto at the start of the summer holidays so we’ll be going from finishing one straight into planning the next one.”
