Trump masterplan goes on public display

The masterplan for Donald Trump's £1 billion golf development will go on public display in Aberdeenshire on Friday.

His company, Trump International, is hosting an exhibition over the next two days in a bid to give locals the chance to examine the designs for the controversial development.

The masterplan was submitted to the local council last month and the event at Newburgh's Udny Arms Hotel is designed to allow residents to contribute to the pre-application consultation process for the detailed golf course design.

Masterplan proposals for every phase of the development, including the hotel, resort and residential village will be displayed in the exhibition, which has been created with the help of the project's planners and architects.

Commenting on the submission of his masterplan last month, Donald Trump said: “This is another significant step towards our goal of building the world’s greatest golf course and resort in Aberdeenshire.”

However, Trump International is still likely to face stiff opposition from a number of residents on the Menie Estate who have refused to sell their properties to the firm.

Earlier this year, his company was granted “special purchaser” status to prevent anyone else bidding to purchase a contested half-acre of former car park. The land had been expected to become the subject of a bidding war as opponents to Mr Trump’s plans vied to buy it from under his nose.

The actions of the residents and associated pressure groups have also come in for stinging criticism from Mr Trump himself.
