Two women died and a third was seriously injured after the car they were travelling in went out of control.
The accident happened just before 6pm on Saturday on the B6369 between Haddington and Gifford.
Emergency services rushed to the scene but were unable to save two of the Vauxhall Corsa's occupants.
The third woman suffered serious injuries to her chest and legs, and received treatment from a trauma team at the scene before being taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
It is thought that the weekend's heavy rain had hampered driving conditions, causing the car to veer out of control.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
