A man has appeared in court accused of setting fire to a football supporter dressed in a sheep outfit on a train.

Peter James Wallace, 23, of St Andrews, appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on charges of culpable and reckless conduct.

He made no plea or declaration during the brief private appearance.

The case was continued for further examination and he was granted bail.

The train was carrying Aberdeen football supporters home after a 2-0 defeat against Hibs in Edinburgh.

Fans said the man ran through the carriage ablaze while fans threw beer at him in an attempt to put out the fire.

The 18.08 service had to stop in Kirkcaldy to allow paramedics to see the man. Police officers also spoke to other passengers on the train.

The fan was taken to the town's Victoria Hospital. His condition was described as serious but stable.
