Police in the west of Scotland have launched separate investigations following two attempted murders over the weekend.
Strathclyde Police said a 48-year-old man was shot in the leg as he made his way home from a party. He was found by a group of golfers in a ditch near Caldwell Golf Club, Uplawmoor, East Renfrewshire.
Police said the man was a target in a drive-by shooting. The victim is thought to have been lying in the ditch for several hours before being discovered.
He was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley then transferred to the Southern General Hospital. Staff described his condition as serious but stable.
Detective Inspector Sam Carson said: "The golfers found the injured man lying in a ditch. We have established the victim was at a pub in Neilston and headed to a party in the Dunlop area about 11pm.
"We are not sure what time he left this party, however as he made his way home along Lochlibo Road it appears a car has pulled up alongside him and the occupant has shot him in the leg.
"We do not have a description of the vehicle or the driver, so would therefore appeal to any drivers who were travelling along Lochlibo Road between midnight and 10am on Sunday morning, and who saw anything at all that may assist our inquiries to contact us."
Meanwhile, police in Glasgow are treating an attack on a 45-year-old man in the city’s Wellfield Street as attempted murder.
Around 2.40pm on Sunday, the man was driving along Wellfield Street at the junction with Atlas Street when his white coloured Volkswagon van was struck by a light blue coloured Peugeot car, which is thought to be a 206.
The man got out his van to get the insurance details of the Peugeot driver, but the driver of the Peugeot drove towards the man.
The car struck him and dragged him up the side of his van. The victim was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he condition is described as 'stable'.
Following the incident, it is believed the suspects made off east in Wellfield Street, where they stopped, got out of the vehicle to possibly check for damage and then continued their journey. There are no descriptions of the suspects however they are both believed to be males in their 20's.
Detective Constable Gary Cassidy from Baird Street CID said: "This incident was completely unprovoked and a man has been left badly injured. This area is often busy with motorists and pedestrians and I'm hopeful someone may have seen or heard something.
"I would urge people to come forward and tell us what they know or if they don't want to speak to the police then call Crimestoppers and give the information anonymously. The Peugeot may have sustained damage to its front near side, and I would ask anyone who may have seen the vehicle when the suspects got out checking for damage or since to call me at Baird Street CID."
