Gordon Brown has said he hoped a new MPs' expenses system would be brought in "as quickly as possible".
The Prime Minister’s commented as the issue of MPs expenses came back to the fore on Wednesday.
It is believed that Sir Christopher Kelly’s reforms will recommend that MPs should be banned from claiming for their mortgages on expenses.
He will also apparently recommend that MPs should have to rent if they require a second home, and is also said to be calling for a ban on MPs employing members of their families paid for out of public funds.
Sir Christopher's review of the regime is due next week and the independent parliamentary standards authority will be given the power to implement it "in detail" - providing MPs agree.
At Prime Minister's question time on Wednesday, Mr Brown said all MPs wanted to see the end of the "old, discredited" system.
Mr Brown added: "Sir Christopher Kelly will report next Wednesday. That report will form a statement to the House and then I expect the independent parliamentary standards authority will be given the power to implement it in detail.
"But that is a matter for the House and there will be a report to the House next Wednesday."
It is thought the conclusion of Sir Christopher Kelly’s report could provoke a back-bench rebellion even though party leaders have said they will accept his findings.
