Are you the Scottish Richard Littlejohn? Can you provoke people as much as Joan Burnie or Jeremy Clarkson. Have you got your finger on the pulse like Bill Leckie or Iain McWhirter? Or maybe you would just like to win a £5,000 contract to write on Scotland’s fastest growing major web-site, stv.tv?
stv.tv is looking for a whole new set of columnists and opinion formers across a wide range of issues and styles to write regularly for the site. We know you’re out there; we want to give you a platform on one of the biggest and fastest growing sites in Scotland. If you can write at least 450 words twice a week on topics that make you mad or make you laugh you could win a six month freelance contract worth at least £5000 to go on contributing to the site in the New Year.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED
How to Enter
Here’s what to do: simply e-mail something you have written recently, between 450 and 600 words in length, to this address, opinion@stv.tv. Please ensure you include a covering note with your application, confirming your name and address and listing, in general terms, what you would like to write about - ie current affairs, politics, the environment, crime, entertainment, TV etc. Entries should be received by November 6th.
What to write and who can enter
It should be something lively and engaging that you have written recently (within the last three months) but it doesn’t have to be written especially for this, nor does it matter whether it has been published elsewhere or not. You may be a professional writer, a blogger, or you may just be someone with strong opinions who wants to make your voice heard. You don’t have to be a Scot or even living in Scotland. But it will help if you obviously know what you are talking about and write about things that you would expect to find on a site like stv.tv. The only category we don’t want you to cover is Sport as we already have a number of contributors in that area and we are not looking for reviews of films or gigs. See the editor explain it all to John MacKay on video.
Shortlist
We will then shortlist up to 10 writers to compete for the top prize over four weeks. Each of the finalists will be required to publish a minimum of two pieces per week, at a minimum of 450 words each, subject to editorial approval and the law. The most popular contributor will win the contract. Success will be measured by the number of page views and the number of comments they generate and the ability to sustain the quality of their contributions.
We pay you!
During the four-week competition period, finalists will be paid £80 per week. If you are chosen as one of the short-listed finalists you will be passionate about providing ideas for contribution to a nominated editor for approval. We will promote each of the finalists equally across the site. You should also expect to seed and promote your contributions elsewhere online and to drive traffic to them.
The Winner
The winner(s) will be offered a contract (technically a service agreement) to write two articles per week for STV, for six months, subject to STV Editorial approval. Contributors will be paid £100 each per contribution over the period which wil begin in January 2010.
