Former Big Brother contestant Mikey Hughes is pledging to clean up politics following the Westminster expenses scandal.
The Glasgow-based radio presenter, who is blind, confirmed that he is standing as an independent candidate in the Glasgow North East by-election.
He made the announcement at a news conference in the constituency this morning.
He thinks that the main constituency issue is crime, and revealed he was recently the victim of an attempted robbery while he was collecting for Guide Dogs for the Blind.
He said: "I'm determined to get down to Westminster and do some straight talking, this is not a stunt I have wanted to be an MP since I was seven.
"People have voted for me on Big Brother, this time I want them to vote for me to win."
The by-election is being held because Speaker Michael Martin announced he intended to stand down following the expenses row.
