An 85-year-old man is due to appear in court in connection with an alleged serious assault in Edinburgh.
He was detained on Wednesday following an incident on Clermiston Road.
A 74-year-old woman was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where she is said to be in a serious but stable condition.
The man is expected to appear in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
He is not believed to be related to the victim of the attack.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at around 1pm on Wednesday to come forward.
