The Conservative's Glasgow North East by-election candidate was joined by the party's Scottish leader on a clean-up operation in the constituency on Saturday.

Annabel Goldie and Ruth Davidson were taking part in a social action event, clearing the grounds of the local Family learning Centre.

The event at the Molendinar Family Learning Centre was one of a host of community projects which the party were running across the country.

Ms Goldie said: "I am delighted that across Scotland Conservatives will be doing their bit to help local communities in a range of different projects.

"This is the third Social Action project I have been involved in recently and I know how much it means to people when politicians roll up their sleeves and get stuck in.

“With a general lack of trust in politicians as a result of the expenses scandal I think it is the duty of everyone involved in politics to do whatever they can to help restore that trust."  

The Conservatives are going into the by-election as 100-1 outsiders, with Labour favourites ahead of the SNP.

The seat is up for grabs following the resignation of the former speaker of the house Michael Martin.

He stood down as an MP in June following criticism over his response to the expenses scandal.
