The Scottish Catholic Church will open its archives to the public today.
Cardinal Keith O'Brien will be joined by Alex Salmond in Edinburgh to unveil the records.
They contain information on births, baptisms and burials in the church between 1703 and 1908.
Civil registrations were only introduced in Scotland in 1855.
The release will see two million people will be added to the Scotlandspeople website, with records covering key periods in history including the growth of the country's Catholic population.
The Church of Scotland has already carried out a similar unveiling of its records.
