Workers at Diageo's plants in Kilmarnock and Glasgow have been told that the company's decision to close the distillery and bottling plant are to go ahead as initially planned.
Management met with staff this morning to confirm that the plans that would mean the loss of 900 jobs are to go ahead.
The firm plans to close its Kilmarnock plant and discontinue production at its Port Dundas distillery. Management said this would be offset by the creation of 400 jobs in Fife.
However, the Scottish Government put forward an alternative plan two weeks ago. It would see a new plant created in Kilmarnock and production continue in Port Dundas, but would see the Fife expansion plans ditched. Ministers have also offered the firm a public financial subsidy.
The company has taken on board the plan, but have decided not to implement it.
The decision on July 1st was met with anger from workers and MSPs, some of whom joined protests against the move.
The company now plan to go ahead with their initial decision.
Last week, MSPs held a debate in Holyrood on the issue, with politicians from across the political spectrum opposing the plans.
