A woman and a man have been found guilty of killing an Ayrshire woman by a jury at the High Court in Glasgow.

Lisa Brown, 21, was found guilty of the murder of Anne Brown and her former boyfriend, John Wilson, 25, has been found guilty of culpable homicide.

The pair had both been charged with the murder of Anne Brown, but on Thursday the jury were instructed by the judge that they could consider a culpable homicide verdict.

Anne Brown, 51, was battered to death at her home in Burnhouse in Ayrshire last year. Her body was found dumped in a burn, wrapped in a sleeping bag and chains.

The body was found by police teams in Clerkland Burn on October 24 last year. Mr Wilson and Ms Brown were accused of travelling to her home and killing her over a domestic dispute that centred on Lisa Brown's child.

A post-mortem examination showed Anne had been battered with a blunt object.  She also had 49 lacerations on her face and neck.

Her daughter Lisa and former boyfriend Wilson both went on trial charged with her murder.

During the course of the trial they both blamed each other for the killing.

Former security guard Wilson admitted helping to wrap the body and dispose of it in the burn. He told the jury that he had done this because he "loved" Lisa and that she had threatened to blame him for her mum's death.

His lawyer said that evidence showed that Brown was a violent woman, and that his client had been a submissive man.

Earlier in the trial a witness who had been in an earlier relationship with Brown told of emails from her, detailing the dispute with her mother and how she referred to "knocking my mum out".

Brown's lawyer told the court that there was no evidence linking her client to the murder, and that despite the injuries suffered by the victim Brown had "not one single scratch."

But the jury did not believe her, and she was found guilty of murder, and found Wilson guilty of culpable homicide.

Sentence was deferred for background reports.
