More than three months worth of rain has fallen in the last month in the east of Scotland, forecasters have revealed.
More wet weather is forecast for Edinburgh and the surrounding areas this week as the Royal Botanic Garden in the capital is revealed as the wettest place in Scotland.
Since the start of June, 230mm of rain has been recorded at the garden’s weather centre. The average total for the three summer months - June, July and August - is 150 to 200mm.
After flooding across the east at the weekend, the heavy rain expected from Tuesday afternoon will fall on already sodden ground.
STV’s weatherman Sean Batty said: "Another band of heavy rain will come down from the north of Scotland and will reach Edinburgh during Tuesday afternoon. Overnight Tuesday to Wednesday there will be persistent and at times heavy rain.
"The issue with that is the ground is so waterlogged the rain will lie on the surface causing flooding. The east has had the whole summer rainfall in first month of summer."
And he added there is no sign of respite, with the jet stream which is bringing the wet weather remaining over Scotland.
Sean said: "There is no long term dry and sunny weather coming up. There are no signs of the jet stream shifting anywhere away from us."
Not every part of Scotland has seen rainfall; residents in the Hebrides are being asked to use their water wisely after just 50mm of rain since the start of June.
