Families living in a Dundee street say their homes are at serious risk of flooding due to a neglected faulty field drain.
The problem, which has seen water build up like a swimming pool near their homes, has been ongoing for six years.
Fiona Scott and her family live in constant fear of flooding. The water next to her privately-owned home at Gillespie Terrace is around eight ft deep and smells.
In the last six years their kitchen was ruined, their garden is regularly flooded and water has swept into the foundations of their home.
She said: "Any time it rains it lies on the top, it comes through into the house, it comes into the front garden. Kids can't get out to play, cats can't get out. Anytime it rains I'm worrying because it lies in a pool. It's just been horrendous, it's been awful."
The problems started when new houses were built at neighbouring Emmock Woods.
It is thought a broken or blocked field drain is to blame.
But since Dundee City Council started exploratory work a week ago, a giant pool has been left behind.
Ms Scott added: "There wasn't proper drainage put in and we got a flood over the grass that you see behind me here and into the house and into the foundations. It's really changed our lifestyle to be honest. The exploration work was to be an investigation with a swale or something to gather rain water and I think since they dug under it they found all six years rain water and flood water off of Emmock Woods and now we have got this pool at the back here."
Dundee City Council say the developer that built the new houses is responsible for the long-running problem, but it has since gone into receivership.
In a statement the council said: "The land is not owned by the city council but, nevertheless, the authority is working to help local residents to find a solution."
