Charles Green: 'Fans should listen to the economics of losing Rangers'

Charles Green says fans have to listen to the economics of “financial meltdown for the whole world” as the SPL prepares to vote on allowing newco Rangers in or out of the top league.

Speaking at Ibrox Stadium, the chief executive of the company looking to continue the Rangers legacy following the liquidation of the club said he is speaking to the chairmen of SPL clubs to attempt to change their minds on voting no to the newco.

Green needs seven clubs, together with the vote for Rangers being cast by Duff and Phelps, to secure a membership transfer from the old Rangers FC Plc to his Sevco Scotland consortium.

Green said: “I’m not convinced it’s just what I can say that will change their minds. I think chairmen have to listen to their fans but the fans have to listen to the economic reality, not just for football but for every business.

“This is financial meltdown for the whole world and football is not isolated from that position.

“Tomorrow is not a vote for ‘Rangers out’, it could be a vote for other clubs to be closed down and that again is unfair that some fans would lose their clubs.”

Green, who backed his chairman Malcolm Murray’s statement apologising on behalf of Rangers for the turmoil engulfing the Scottish game, said that removing Rangers from the SPL would have long running effects on the game.

He is still holding out hope that the member clubs will allow the membership transfer.

Green added: “It takes only a very, very short time to say yes but it will take an eternity to say no.”

Sorry, you're not on.

Take your new club, and follow the rules like everyone else does.

Anything other than a strict application of the rules will mean 90% of fans being lost from the game forever.

Now that really would bring about "financial meltdown" of Scottish football.

Aaaaaaaaaaagh !!!! The World will end without Sevco in the SPL !!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaagh !!!! Strangely, and it's been said many times, the 30 teams in the Irn Bru league survive without money from the Old Firm, so why should they vote Sevco into Div 1 ? It appears that the SFA have said they won't allow the Sevco Newco into the SPL. Stewart Regan announced that during todays meeting. Source: Jim Spence, a journo at the meeting and using Twitter.

If the New Club Sevco has started is allowed to go straight into the SPL then it is setting a precedent and stating clearly that SPL clubs can run up 100's of millions in debt and then simply close down and demand that they get entry at the highest division no matter about their crimes.

A yes vote says to The Rangers go ahead and do what you want and spend tax payers money how you like, if caught then just close down again as you will always have a place in the top league.

Supporters Associations from other clubs should conside taking the SFA and SPL to court to have the rules on allowing entry adhered to, just the same as Rangers did over the transfer case.

D DAY tomorrow and not a day to soon,the 4th of July will go down as the day Scottish Football Died,and all because it bent over backwards to allow the most corrupt club in Scottish history to get away with shaming football,you may save 3 clubs ,but how many will you kill?tomorrow you may save Newco,but you will go down as the laughing stock of professional football,I hope old Rangers are proud of themselves,not only have they commited football suicide,they have dragged Scottish football with them,time for Glasgow Celtic to flex some muscle,Division 3 or a boycott of every Away game if Newco are not punished to the full.

Is this a poetry competition? as i think the poem that sums up the old defunct club of rangers most has to be Hey Diddle Diddle, not quite the literary genius of PORTIA but the words fit their story better.

There is a decision to be made by the other member clubs.

He is merely trying to put his point across for Rangers (new) ahead of that time. I dont see any bullying, or arm bending in the quotes above. I don't think anyone can deny that if Rangers (new) start off in Div 1/3 that other teams will suffer financially - to different levels.

I'm not saying that should be reason alone for putting Rangers (new) in Division 'X', as opposed to Division 'Y'.

If he wasnt making a case for Rangers (new) at all, I'd be a bit disappointed.

If the other clubs should happen to say no - so be it.

At this stage, the only bodies that I can see that are trying to force anyone's hand are the SPL/SFA themselves - by rushing through a possible league restructuring in half a close-season.

"The world is in financial meltdown..." Which means vultures like you Mr Green can feed off other peoples misery.

Thanks to the financial meltdown Duff and Phelps are £5.5million better off, the oldco liquidators will be £1m better off and Green bought over £100m worth of assets for £8.5m - it's a struggle right enough.

I remember a time when there was little or no financial gain to be had from TV deals etc - Scottish football was in a great position. Our national team used to qualify for World Cups, we had thousands of supporters at the smallest of grounds etc. We were actually much better off before you financiers entered the picture.

As I said before, stick to selling double glazing because your patter's pants. You may have duped several investors to invest in your get rich quick scheme but it looks like you're struggling to con anyone else. The more I hear Charles Green speak, the more I'm convinced both he, Whyte and Murray will eventually end up in the same cell.

Irony - without those financiers you'd be looking at the SPL being the same level as the Irish & Welsh top flights. There IS no money in the SPL outside the Old Firm, it's all on tick and well, don't kid yourselves on here, ticket prices rising & inferior product on show, it's questionable if average attendance is going to rise to a level whereby that debt is sustainable.

Perhaps the situation would be a good bit rosier, were it not for the reckless actions of one club, thankfully now gone, which inflated players salaries beyond that which Scottish football could naturally sustain, via the mechanism of unlawful non-payment of tax.

Of course, now that the perpetrators of this ghastly crime against football have since shuffled off this mortal coil to play Third Lanark in the sky, the whole of Scottish football can look forward to a brighter future without this tainting presence.

well it looks like the spl are bending over backwards over the sevco situation,seems they are saying that for the sake of sporting integretory that the spl member clubs must vote on sevco,s future in the spl,but when it becomes apparent that they are not wanted and the vote will be to kick them out.they come up with a plan to allow them into division 1 although most clubs in that div are stating that they dont want them either and if it,s good enough to let the spl clubs vote then it should apply to div 1 clubs aswell,so the spl then threaten the sfl clubs with withdrawel of current funding and parachute payments unless they vote in sevco,s favour..reeks double standards to me. i think its about time the celtic board flexed there muscles and came out on this,as we certainly carry as much away support as sevco and generate as much money for the spl as they do,so come on celtic lets take a stand on this and make sure that cheating teams no matter who they be are punished the same,which is to apply for membership as a new team and start at the bottom tier div 3

a few months ago both Rangers and Celtic wanted to go to play in England . It was said at the time that the SPLwould be more competitive league and there would be an increase of spectators if this happened - so what has changed - Let the newco apply to the SFL for application to division 3 along with other clubs e.g. Cove Rangers

I would say that we have to many professional punishment experts on the matter but its obvious those experts are not Rangers supporters and couldn't care less if Rangers folded.It is now obvious that if the SPL clubs are concerned about Rangers being voted out of the SPL as it is unsure if they could be relegated to 1st div.The SKY and ESPN t.v contract is now on the line and SKY have said they would only go without Rangers for 1 year and then its bye,bye SPL.If Rangers can't be in the 1st div or SPL then 650,000 pound cheques for each club dated aug 1st will be cancelled along with 2 million pound deals being terminated for each club.Several clubs have stated that without that cash they would end up in administration so I wouldn't want to be making the decisions.St Johnstones decision will be remembered for eternity by Rangers supporters and if there is any help needed by St Johnstone Iam sure the Rangers company and club will gladly say "you are on your own mate".

Blinkers again from short-sighted people.

Some people are more concerned about running Rangers into the ground rather than thinking about the implications that would affect their own club.

Whatever happens, they won't be happy.

Entry into Division 3 (they won't be happy)
Entry into Division 1 (they won't be happy)
Remain in SPL and happily accept sanctions such as 2 year point deduction, 12-month transfer ban, public apology from those who were not responsible for the mess (Still won't be happy)

In a summer that I learned that integrity was massive in all Scottish clubs, I also learned so is bitterness towards anything Rangers.

Too much stupidity to even begin. SPL decision is not about punishment it is about the transfer of Rangers FC to The Rangers Football Club which bought all of Rangers FC and therefore remains the same entity within a new company.

Bill Shakespeare certainly saw this happening. Shylock is being disingenuous stating he only wants payment of his debt -literally the pound of flesh from around Antonio's heart. He of course knows that he can't take it without killing Antonio. Portia steps in with a judicial review and says yes you are legally entitled to the pound of flesh but if you take it then you die and all your property is forfeit. Rules are rules, but fairness, that's something else exactly.
