Sunshine Grocers: The attack took place in the shop on Friday.STV

Two potential witnesses are being sought to an attack which left a shopkeeper fighting for his life.

The 48-year-old man was working at the Sunshine Grocers on Green Street in Paisley when he was stabbed at around 5pm on Friday.

On Tuesday, police said he is still in a critical condition at Royal Alexander Hospital.

Strathclyde Police, who are treating the attack as attempted murder, want to speak to two people who were seen in the area around the time of the incident.

The first is a woman in her 30s who stopped her car outside the shop just after the attack took place. The second is a man who was walking away from the grocers carrying a loaf of bread when he stopped to talk to another man in a nearby phone box.

Detective Chief Inspector Duncan Sloan said: "We have received an encouraging response from the local community; however, I believe there are people still to come forward who hold information that may be key to this enquiry.

"I am keen to speak to the driver of a car that stopped outside the shop minutes after the incident. The driver is described as female, in her thirties with short brown hair.

"I am also interested in speaking to a man observed walking from the direction of Sunshine Grocers carrying a loaf of bread who appeared to have a conversation with a man standing within a nearby public phone box during Friday afternoon.

"I would urge these individuals to get in touch or anyone who has information that can assist our enquiries is asked to get in contact."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Paisley CID on 0141 532 5900 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
