Woman, 80, suffers head injury in collision with van

An 80-year-old woman is in hospital after she was struck by a van while crossing the road outside a bingo hall.

The victim was crossing Lonend, Paisley, towards the Watermill Hotel when she collided with a white Luton van heading west.

She was taken to the Royal Alexandria Hospital in Paisley after sufffering a head injury in the collision, which happened at about 12.25pm on Friday.

Hospital staff said she was in a stable condition.

The driver of the van was unhurt.

Sergeant John Tait, at Strathclyde Police's central road policing unit, has asked for witnesses to call 0141 532 6442.

He said: "The Lonend area would have been relatively busy at the time of the incident and I would appeal to anyone who saw the woman being struck by the van to come forward."
