A five year programme to restore Aberdeen's historic Green gets under way this summer.
The conservation led project will tackle the problems of rundown historic buildings and streets in the Green area of the city, promising to restore it to its former glory.
The Green Townscape Heritage Initiative hopes to regenerate the rundown area of the city.
It is hoped that the project will play a key role in city centre redevelopment, linking the city's Union Street with the bus and railway stations, as well as nearby new commercial developments.
Those behind the regeneration see the potential for a distinct city neighbourhood in the Green, characterised by cafes, shops, galleries and a revitalised Tivoli Theatre.
A programme of street work also begins this month, including the restoration and upgrading of the area's distinctive cobble roads.
The area once played a central role in Aberdeen's medieval past.
The initiative could take up to five years to complete but it is hoped that the project will restore the historic fabric of this ancient part of the city.
