Care worker who died at 28 ‘just went to bed and never woke up’

A family has paid tribute after the unexplained death of a young woman at her home in Aberdeen.

Victoria Brooks, 28, was discovered by her mother Catherine in bed at her home in the Torry area on June 4 after she failed to get in contact for three days.

Her mother became concerned because she spoke to her daughter daily. She let herself into her daughter’s home, in Torry, with a spare key and found her dead.

Ms Brooks sister Elizabeth said the family are still in shock at her death. She said: "Vicky was still in her bed when we found her. She just went to bed and never woke up. She died in her sleep but we don't know why. She was perfectly healthy and nothing had seemed wrong. We are just in total shock. It is completely unexplained."

Vicky last spoke to her youngest sister Elaine, 18, and concerns grew after she failed to call or post a message on social networking sites.

Elizabeth, 26, said: "Elaine usually spoke to Vicky every single day, and she was also always on Facebook. But no one had heard from her since the Thursday, which was very unusual. We decided we were going to report her missing on Monday, but my mum had a spare key to her house so we went round there first - and found her."

Vicky worked as a care assistant at Torry Nursing Home. Elizabeth added: "Being a care worker was something she had always wanted to do. She was an extremely caring person."

Vicky grew up in Fort William before moving to Aberdeen with her family, including her father Kevin, 54, when she was 15, where she attended Torry Academy.

Elizabeth said: "She had so many friends. Vicky was incredibly popular and was known by so many people. She was such a happy person and everyone who knew her loved her."

She also said she was a devoted aunt to her four-year-old niece Chloe.

Vicky had spent the last two months enjoying an extended break from work, visiting Ireland before returning to her home in Balnagask Road.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place to establish the cause of Vicky's death.

Elizabeth added: "We were all so very close and can't believe what has happened. Vicky seemed so healthy and perfectly fine. She wasn't ill or anything like that. We are all just so shocked."
