The body of a man has been discovered near one of the UK’s highest mountains.

Emergency services were alerted to the find in the Braeriach area of the Cairngorms on Thursday afternoon.

Grampian Police said the remains of the man were found at around 3.30pm and prompted calls to both the Cairngorm Mountian Rescue Team and an RAF Search and Rescue helicopter.

The body has been removed from the site and police said enquiries are ongoing to establish the man’s identity.

A force spokesman added: "Further details will not be released until next of kin have been informed."

Braeriach is the third highest mountain in the UK, as it comes in at 4525ft, and is popular with climbers and walkers.
