Primary schools in Aberdeen are facing a 'shortage of spaces'

School capacity: The matter will be discussed at a meeting on Thursday.

Seven primary schools in Aberdeen are facing a capacity crisis, according to a new report.

A report to the education, culture and sport committee highlights an “immediate lack of capacity” at seven primary schools which needs to be addressed in order to accommodate the new primary one intake from August.

The schools affected are Seaton, Mile End, Kaimhill, Manor Park, Milltimber, St Peters RC and Riverbank.

The report also says the rolls in 20 primary schools are forecast to exceed the capacity of the school buildings within the next four years.

The report recommends a public engagement exercise to be undertaken over the summer and autumn with a view to developing a long term School Estate Plan for Aberdeen, which would include proposals on rezoning as well as taking into account the changing demographic of the city.
