Lightning strike kills cows in East Lothian

Tragedy has hit a farm in East Lothian, where 16 cows were killed by a lightning strike.

A farmer in Pencaitland discovered the animals lying dead under a tree on Sunday.

Veterinarians believe that one cow was struck by the bolt of lightning but the others standing in water died through conductivity.

The McDougal family told STV on Monday there were "upset" by the sudden loss.

A neighbour alerted the family of the freak accident.
