Scots sweltering in the sun as hottest day of the year recorded

The first glimpse of summer has arrived in Scotland with the highest temperature of the year recorded this week.

On Tuesday the record for the year so far was broken as temperatures hit 23.9C in Lossiemouth, Moray, according to the Met Office.

Weather forecasters say there will be plenty of sunshine with temperatures expected to remain high through until the weekend.

The high is set to continue to rise on Wednesday and into Thursday as the country rivals several European cities including Paris and Madrid.

STV weather forecaster Sean Batty said the temperature recorded in Lossiemouth beat that of Aboyne at 23.6C noted in March.

He added: "Over the next few days cloud will come and go across central and eastern areas which may hamper temperatures in some parts. Clear skies can be expected in all parts during the weekend with UV levels becoming high.

"Sunburn risk will be high especially later in the week and during the weekend. People are advised to wear high factor sunscreen."
