Two men have been arrested after £35,000 of cannabis plants were found inside a Borders home.

Officers searched the property in Bridgegate Court in Peebles on Sunday and found around 80 plants along with other herbal matter.

Two men have been arrested and charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act. A 32-year-old man and 31-year-old man are due to appear at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Monday.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "As a result of proactive policing in the area, officers recovered a substantial quantity of cannabis before it could make its way into our communities.

"Lothian and Borders Police will continue to gather information from the public to identify properties in the production and distribution of drugs and bring those responsible to justice.

"Anyone who wishes to report drug crime in their area should contact their local policing team, or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
