Commuter misery as road accident brings gridlock to parts of M8

M8 crash: Travellers warned of road delays.SWNS

Drivers in Edinburgh are facing a morning of travel misery after a road accident brought parts of the M8 to a grinding halt.

The incident initially blocked off the Hermiston Gait roundabout at junction one but that has since been cleared.

The accident happened when two cars collided at around 6.30am.

There were no serious injuries but one car, a Renault Mégane, was severely damaged and had to be uplifted. The other vehicle, an Audi A4, was able to be driven away.

The road was cleared by 7.10am but congestion remained because of rush hour traffic. Traffic Scotland said traffic was moving very slowly from junction two eastbound to junction one.

Hour-long delays should be expected.

The city bypass is suffering the knock-on effects of the slowdown. Also affected is the M9 southbound from the Forth Road Bridge.
