Teenagers charged with attempted murder following dawn raids

Five teenagers have been arrested following a series of dawn raids across Glasgow.

Officers attended addresses in Carmyle and Cambuslang in relation to a large scale disturbance last month which left three teenagers critically ill in hospital.

Police confirmed that four youths, aged 13, 16, 16 and 17, had been arrested following the raids in Carmyle and are expected to appear at Glasgow Sherrif Court charged with attempted murder on Wednesday.

A 15-year-old from the Cambuslang area was also arrested and charged with breach of the peace and is expected to appear in court on Thursday.

The incident happened in the Westburn area of Cambuslang on April 27.

The operation which led to the arrest of the teenagers involved officers from Rutherglen Police and Strathclyde Police's Gangs Task Force.

Inspector Jim Gillespie said: "These arrests send a strong message that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated.

"The incident caused quite a bit of concern in the community due to its violent nature. I’d like to thank members of the community for their assistance with our investigation."

Police said further arrests are expected.
