Borders MSP John Lamont has dropped strong hints over putting himself forward in the race to become the next Scottish Conservative Party leader.

The 35-year-old believes the party needs to go in a new direction and appoint a younger person in charge following the resignation of Annabel Goldie.

Lamont was only one of three Conservative MSPs to win a constituency seat at last week's Scottish Parliamentary elections when he won  Etttrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire.

Now the Tories justice spokesman has his eye on an even more prominent role within the party north of the border.

He said a "generation jump" maybe the way forward for the party and said:"I won't deny that people have approached me with the suggestion to shift to a younger person.

"I believe I have something to offer."
